| A Note from the Bakery Lady about Shipping Bread—Salt Rising, in particular
Last year I suspended shipping bread due to the enormous amount of time that it took and the problems encountered with shipping. I have had so many requests to resume shipping bread that I have worked up the following options.
Each batch of salt rising bread is made from scratch and due to the variables of temperature, humidity and evidently the black magic involved in salt rising starters, each batch is slightly different. My starters use milk, cornmeal and raw potato (which is taken out before mixing the dough). I do use a minute quantity of yeast in the final dough. The starters and the bread stink! You may or may not think the bread smells like you remembered it —I do the best I can! It will be a good product and as traditional a loaf of salt rising bread as it is humanly possible for me to make; that is all I can promise you. I will no longer be able to guarantee satisfaction . Each loaf is 1 1˛4#, sliced or unsliced, and costs $4.00. If it is to be delivered to an address in Tennessee, you must also pay 9.5% sales tax.
For all orders, regardless of number of loaves ordered, there will be $5.00 charge to cover cost of packaging, time for packaging, & for taking to the post office. All orders must be prepaid . You can send me a check or money before hand or you can pay with Visa or Mastercard.
The Fed Ex experiment I tried in January failed due to the high fuel surcharge they surprised me with. So I'm back to shipping with USPS priority mail (2 to3 days for delivery)...not as dependable, but definitely the least expensive.
There is the possibility that your bread may not be delivered in the 2 to 3 day period that it is supposed to take to get to you; this is a risk you must be willing to take. I will only ship flat rate , which is subject to change, but as of May, 2008, is approximately $10.00. Please call for current rates.
You can pick up Salt Rising Bread at the Bakery and outlets on the 4 th Wednesday of the month , except for the months of March, November and December. I don't plan to make salt rising those months at this time. If you would like to order salt rising for a particular month, I will need to have your order, including payment, by the 3 rd week of the month , so that I will be able to make a large enough batch. You may email me at Marjie@thebakerylady.com or phone me at 865-579-5433.
Thank you for your interest in this unique, specialty bread!
